This webinar aims to provide an understanding of the manufacturing situation in China due to the recent Coronavirus outbreak and its impact on operational activities, supply chains and employees.

Highlights

0:16:19 – Global production has been delayed. South Korea is facing a 30% below normal volume of containers since many are stuck in China.

0:19:24 – Companies should not leave China for the only reason of this virus. Standard Chartered Bank estimated that 300 million people in China will be added into the middle class in the next 15 years.

0.33:22 – China government requires firms to provide salary to workers under self-quarantine.

0:42:00 – South Korea has yet to shut down any cities. Korea will be able to deal with the virus and economic growth will continue.

0:53:02 – An International Crisis Room survey shown that 60% had no Business Continuity & Recovery Plans (BCRP) in place.

Objectives of the Webinar

Logistics Services Providers (LSPs) and companies with supply chain activities in China are required to have a reasonable understanding of:

  • How quickly will this end?
  • Will the virus cause my factories to shut down for an extended period?
  • How long will the ‘Chinese New Year’ slowdown last this year?
  • Will my staff be safe if they need to visit China (or are based there)?
  • What will we do if key suppliers can’t fulfill my orders?
  • Should our company move some or all of its production out of China?

About the Speaker

Mr. David Collins is a world-class proven expert in leadership, lean manufacturing and employee engagement. With over 30 years of manufacturing experience in automotive, aerospace, computer, furniture and chemical industries, Mr Collins has held several leadership positions with international assignments for numerous global leading automotive and electronics suppliers and manufacturers. He has helped set up five manufacturing facilities from scratch (in the US, Canada, Mexico), including a 450 million USD project.

As CEO of CMC, his expertise is in reducing costs, improving quality, and getting better delivery of product for clients operating in the Chinese market. Mr. Collins’ greatest accomplishment is creating lean organizations that are able to sustain recognized performance well after he left them. In two other assignments, he was able to be part of the team that transformed facilities targeted for closure into high performing teams that continue to operate today.
